Internet Explorer is a familiar name. Most of us are familiar with Opera, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Chrome. These aren’t all the web browsers available. I thought it would be helpful to compile a list of lesser-known but still influential web browsers.
Chromium
This open-source browser, a Google project, is the foundation of Google Chrome and many other browsers. It is as current as possible; any new feature that Google may have in mind, Chromium will test it. Although it’s intended for web developers, anyone can use it – free of charge. A portable version of Chromium is available. It is convenient. You can use it from a USB, CD, or iPod. This allows you to bring your bookmarks and apps with you. Plug the USB with Chromium portable on it into any computer to start browsing the internet. All browsing data from Chromium is deleted when you are done browsing. This keeps your information secure.
Comodo Dragon
This browser, like Rockmelt, is built on the Chromium open source project. It’s compatible with addons from Chrome Web Store. It is a fast browser that has a similar interface to Chrome. Chrome has been criticized for leaking users’ personal information and suggesting content and ads based on browsing history.
Some people are now looking for alternatives to Chrome. One that offers all the same features but also addresses their privacy concerns. Browsers such as Comodo Dragon can help. This browser’s primary goal is security. It allows users to surf the web without being tracked by Google.
Maxthon
Although this browser is slower than others on startup, it’s still speedy once it starts. It renders pages in a flash, which is what most people expect from their browser. You can customize the interface by changing the skin or the toolbar. Maxthon is built on the same engine that Internet Explorer. Users of Internet Explorer will find it easy to adapt to this browser.
This browser lacks a few key features. This browser does not offer parental control options, so it is not one I recommend if you have kids. There is also no spellcheck option. Although it is not revolutionary, it would be helpful.
